Herniated Discs – Why Patients With Zero Pain Have Them

Hi I’m Adam Heller.

Herniated disc, does it cause pain? Does it not cause pain?
It’s certainly one the most common diagnoses for back pain, lower back pain, upper back pain.

And it’s one of the primary reasons people have back surgeries. Also that people are prescribed pain medications and drugs.
So the question is, do herniated discs really cause pain?

There are certainly some arguments going on about that right now. The traditional approach is medication, is surgical. Sometimes it has results, sometimes it doesn’t.

But there was a study that was done and published in the New England Journal of Medicine and replicated over and over again. And it took a group of people – the first one that was published, they took 98 people who had never had back pain. And they gave them an MRI. And you know what they found out?

They found out that two of every three had bulging discs at one or more levels and/or herniated discs. Protrusions, extrusions both but they never had any pain. So it begs the question do herniated discs cause pain at all? Are they associated with pain? Or are they just there and there’s pain? There’s some question to that.

But a very interesting recent Mayo Clinic pilot with people with herniated discs, and they were given only a linguistic only treatment. That means just talking.

And according to the write-up – at the end of, within 28 days every single patient was pain-free and their case closed using this technique.

So could that happen if this herniation or this structural abnormality was the cause of pain? He questions that a lot.

So what’s it mean to you? It means that you’re in charge of your health. You work with your doctor. You work with licensed professionals. You work with experts. At the end it’s your life and you have to decide what’s best for you.

So what this probably does is encourages you I hope, to get some information. To talk to your doctor. To research. To get information and see what is possible for you. What’s safe? What’s long-term? What’s there for you?

Because every day new things come along and science is wonderful and every day new things are created and tested that are better. Things keep getting better.

So I hope you use this video – hope you use the information to arm yourself with information so that you can make the best decisions for your long-term health.
